Mortimer is the face of Flesh and Blood's next set. He is the plague, the "living virus" spreading disease through the Pits. And if you play Classic Constructed, you won't be sitting across from him.
Legend Story Studios revealed Outbreak on October 13: a standalone booster set with six new heroes, a returning fan favorite, and a disease system that reaches all the way into how you build your deck. Read the hero cards closely, though, and one detail jumps out. Only four of the six are listed for Classic Constructed. The other two are Silver Age only.
So which of the four would you play? We're asking local players exactly that, plus two more quick questions further down. First, the facts.
Back to the Pits, and they're sick
Outbreak returns to the Pits, the underworld beneath Metrix. An outbreak of disease has plunged it into chaos: some worship the plague, others exploit the infected for profit, and Metrix high society sends ruthless exterminators to protect its interests. In the middle of it, a lone mercenary steps up to defend her home, eliminating the threats "one... by... one."
That mercenary is fan favorite Azalea, back and now an Assassin Ranger.
The six heroes, sorted by where you can play them
The three dual-class heroes cross two class card pools, and the three Chaos heroes lean on the Chaos talent. The set is built around Assassin, Ranger and Mechanologist.
Listed for Classic Constructed and Silver Age
-
Azalea (Assassin Ranger, midrange and disruptive). The returning mercenary, "determined to save her home from collapse."
-
Min (Chaos Mechanologist, control and combo). A flip hero split between two minds: Min, Genius tries to undo what his research created, while Min, Mad wants to engineer utter anarchy.
-
Vyle (Chaos Ranger, go-wide and disruptive). Her "super spreader parties" speed up the rate of infection.
-
Huxley (Assassin Mechanologist, go-wide and disruptive). A crime boss in a gentleman's suit, running a "legitimate" business in Metrix and a racket in the Pits.
Listed for Silver Age only
-
Mortimer, Living Virus (Chaos Assassin, midrange and disruptive). Disease and discourse flow from his lab into the Pits.
-
α-01, First Cogwarden (Mechanologist Ranger, go-wide). Built by Min for a noble cause, now hunting and exterminating the infected for Metrix's elite.
Want a CC Mortimer anyway? Armory Deck: Dr. Mortimer is a separate Classic Constructed deck that LSS lists for November 13, 2026, months before Outbreak.
Diseases: your old debuffs got promoted
LSS's official Outbreak product sheet shows Bloodrot Pox and Inertia, two tokens long-time players already know, printed as Disease Aura tokens alongside a brand new disease, Exertion: "an intense rush of adrenaline" that often ends with the host tearing their own body apart. Even the three booster wrappers are named after the diseases: Bloodrot, Exertion and Inertia.
On top of that, a set mechanic called Mortimer's Lab "infects every corner of limited gameplay," changing in-game choices and even deckbuilding decisions. LSS also teases that knowing the top card of your deck is always a plus in Outbreak, with choices between boosting for go again or for extra damage. Expect the full rules as previews roll out.
